Definitions
Non-Programmable
Has the ability to regulate room temperature to one desired setpoint. All temperature changes are made manually.
Programmable
A thermostat that can set back the temperature to save energy during the day and the evenings.
Conventional Systems 
Conventional systems are single stage systems that include gas forced air, and hot water.
Line Voltage/Electric Baseboard
Baseboard, Convectors, and Fan Forced Systems using 120 or 240 volts.
Heat Pump
A type of system where heating and cooling are produced from the same outdoor unit. (compressor)
Multistage
A heating or cooling system with more than one stage.  i.e. A gas furnace with electric heat strips inside the furnace, or a two speed a/c compressor.
Boiler/Steam
A thermostats that can control 2-wire and 3-wire zone valves in hydronic applications.
Specialty Applications
Thermostats that are remote controlled, telephone controlled, tamper proof, and easy to read.
Humidistats
Humidistats and dehumidistats can provide automatic control of humidification equipment for optimum humidity control.
